Looks like my Stage 2 ATS is about toast. Been limping regularly, I pulled filter today and oil looks terrible. I'd like to rebuild this myself. Do I need to do any valvebody work? i'm hoping since this is already a built trans I can just put some new clutches in and it'll be good?

......those darn ats transmissions!!! I'd say the best yet worst thing is to buy another kit from ats and refresh the trans, and pray it holds

First of all you will need a stock sun gear cover for the front drum because ATS machines theirs down to fit 7 clutches. I suggest buying a complete clutch kit from either Suncoast or PPE which will give you all the machined pressure plates and proper clutch clearance.
ATS does use the Transgo trim valves but they do not drill the holes in the seperator plate. If you are using the copilot do not drill the plate. I also don't like the hollow pressure regulator valve ATS uses and suggest a stock valve. You can continue to use their pressure regulator spring if you are making 600 + hp but I don't recommend it for a daley driver as it is too much. If you're going with a stock pr valve, you will need a modified Transgo converter flow valve so there is no pressure nockdown on TCC apply. I also recommend a different converter.

The above was posted by Mike L in thread discussing the same thing. My ats stage 2 lasted less than a year and I swapped to alto clutches and the only thing I did different than above aside from a few things in the valve body and pump was replace the bearing ATS uses when they machine the P1 drive flange.

Thanks guys! Its going behind a stock bottom motor so itll only see 500ish hp. Thinking I'll probaly use a Suncoast 1058 converter

Do we really have to get into the difference Mike? Whats the difference if one of YOUR trans fails VS one of your customers home built trans failing with YOUR kit in it, i think you can answer that... Right?

I thought you were referring to difference in parts used between an ATS built and kit built.

No co-pilot, bought this trans direct from ATS along with five star torque converter. It lasted approx. 30k miles behind a stock bottom lly that dynoed 500 rwhp. Most of the time I run a mild tow tune. Lots of heavy towing but no drag racing or sled pulling. The torque converter is toast as well but I'm gonna try to get it warrantied.

Where do I get the modified converter flow valve and alto clutches?
