Doin a motor build.. Goin for 800 to 900 ponies.. Stuck whether I should spend the high dollars for porting or not.. Does it really make a difference or what.. Iv heard mixed reviews about doing it.. And let's stay on topic with this one!
800 is pretty common for a built motor without porting. Matching the turbos, fueling and tuning is very important, you just cant throw parts together and expect good results.
BTW, to answer the tagline under your username....no, it never ends. :roflmao:
Even though I have had little to no luck with ported heads, I still vote for it. I had a set of hand ported LBZ heads by Curtis Halvorson on my stock motor and noticed lower egt`s, lower drive pressure, and quicker spooling. Made 670rwhp with nitrous on a stock turbo and sticks. Wish I still had those heads.
From what I understand there is going to be some major improvements in dmax heads this coming year though.

If the cost isn't a problem then do it. But you can go pretty good with stock porting and heavy springs. I've seen Chavis's truck run mid 10's with stock porting and cam. Matt (MaxPowerLB7) ran mid 10 with very mildly modded heads and stock cam. Both trucks were over 1000 depending on which dyno. Before the black truck was built into a racer, Trent ran 11.0 on a stock engine / heads /cam with only tune and turbos.
