I have 33" pro comp extreme all terrains. during the winter I put on rare parts tie rods and all the idler and steering supports from cognito and cranked bars a little more then aligned and rotated tires. month or so ago I noticed the tires are wearing really strange like one cleat? will be almost 1/4 lower than the one next to it. So the outside is high, next one in low the high then low. all the way across and around both front tires. my alignment guy said run more pressure so Ive been running 63psi and they are still wearing bad. any ideas.

I run 40 pounds in my toyo's I also keep them rotated often. I would think 63 is way to high but some tires just wear goofy. Also with the torsion bars fully cranked you can't get a perfect alignment. This is why I rotate often.

I had my tires do the exact same thing, including the every other cleat wear. I still am not positive what the problem was. I tried getting it aligned, but that made no difference. Then, my pitman arm snapped
After replacing it, I had a different shop do the alignment, and he said it was off just a hair, but once he aligned it, the wear stopped. Not sure if it was the pitman or the alignment that was the problem...

So perhaps check the alignment and how worn the front steering components are?

What you describe sounds like cupping. Find a new allignment shop. While some wear like this is normal, it should show over many many miles, and normal tire rotations would keep it to a minimum. If it is aggressive wear there is an allignment or worn parts issue.....both of which a good allignment shop would catch.

Cupping
Cups or scalloped dips appearing around the edge of the tread on one side or the other, almost always indicate worn (sometimes bent) suspension parts. Adjustment of wheel alignment alone will seldom cure the problem. Any worn component that connects the wheel to the car (ball joint, wheel bearing, shock absorber, springs, bushings, etc.) can cause this condition. Worn components should be replaced with new ones. The worn tire should be balanced and possibly moved to a different location on the car. Occasionally, wheels that are out of balance will wear like this, but wheel imbalance usually shows up as bald spots between the outside edges and center of the tread.

I had a set of those and some of my friends did also. They all did what you describe. Had to rotate every 5k and keep the pressure like 45. PIA. never bought another set and neither did any of them. Good luck

thanks for replies. I wonder if one of the cognito braces could have tweaked something. I didnt think I could be alignment b/c even though its wearing like that its consistent around the tire. maybe while I was plowing I hit something too hard. I guess I will rotate again drop the pressure and check suspension. thanks

only thing i found that fixes the cupping is to change the shocks but the problem after fixing it is the tires are already bad because you can't fix tehm there already worn bad

ok so I just jacked right front up and had some serious right to left play. How do you tell which part is worn or do you just do everything? Call it counterintuitive butg is it possible those braces screwed something up b/c problem didnt start until after I installed that stuff.

Check the steering box for play. But the best thing to do is have a buddy rock the tires and you crawl under there and check every ball joint and pivot point.

I think I figured the problem. As people stated and according to research the tire wear is caused by bouncing tires hitting the pavement. I noticed after I cranked the torsion bars almost all the way, the front of the truck got real stiff and seemed to be almost jumping down the road. so I wonder if this is a product of to much tension on the bars or bad shocks. I have the shock extenders so I think I might replace shocks and crank bars down a little and see if that helps. I think steering parts are ok upon second check. steering is real tight.

Does the suspension have any droop? Meaning does the front suspension drop if you lift the frame? If it is riding at the very top of the travel without any available dropout it will ride like absolute ass, and cause all kinds of problems not unlike what you describe. How much did you lift the truck when you "cranked" the torsion bars?

I should get a pic of just my rh tire. It's cupped so bad I bet there's a 1/4" difference. New unit bearing on the LH so guess I need to check this one.

Take it to a different alignment shop. the toe is most likely out on one side or another.
Lots of guys have brought their trucks into our shop with the same thing saying they just had it aligned but the tires are still wearing funny.
Lots of alignment guys will set stuff so it is just within spec, 90% of them don't know how to do a proper alignment, most not knowing what proper offsets between each side of the truck actually do for it.
