Hello all
I am looking at buying a new FIFTH WHEEL, and people are telling me that i need to get the 285/75/16 tires off. And go back to 265/75/16. I can't beleive that would make that much of a differents. I have not done put any lift kits on it. Also will i need to add a extra leaf spring to the rear.Pleas advise. Thanks

IIRC you can't get a load range E in the 285. If you are planning to haul a heavy 5th wheel you may want to look at the 265. I don't pull a 5th wheel but I am very happy with my 265 Bridgestone Dueler A/T revo's and they are a load range E.

Are you referring a specific model or you saying all 285s? Plenty of 285s in E rating plus 285s have a higher maximum load over a 265

I've pulled my 15,000lb 5er with my 265's and my 305's and I could not notice any difference in performance. If your 285's are load range E, you will be fine. You should not need to add a leaf if your pin weight is under 2500lbs. If it is over that, you might want to consider air bags. This will give you the ability to level your your truck when towing.

If you're running the 285s on stock wheels, I would definitely back down to a 265. That wheel is really too narrow for that tire, and I would personally be a little worried about tire or stability problems if I loaded it heavy. If they're on a wider aftermarket wheel, I see no real reason to go to anything smaller.

265/75R16 with an E range load rating should work fine for ya!
