Ok someone give me the scoop on Diesel Sport Promotions, aka DHRA, and Calkins/McBride Racing.

DSP is promoting the Thunder in Muncie event that is going on the same time as the NHRDA FASS Nationals event in Indy, or at least the sled pulling events are on the same day, June 6. Muncie's drag racing in on the 7th which would allow those of us who are racing in Indy on the 6th to race Muncie on the 7th. Problem is I can't find out much about it. I have heard less than favorable reports about McBride and some of the shenanigans he as reportly pulled at prior events such as changing the rules to allow Orange Crush to continue racing after getting beat by McRat, and not paying off to at least some of the winners of his events. According to their website (DSP) they are planning a pretty full racing schedule this year.

Can anyone tell me any more about the Muncie event and has anyone heard if there will be a payout? Wouldn't mind attending but not interested unless we can get a lot more information than is currently being offered.

When is your race again? And where exactly? If I remember correctly it in conflict with one of our NHRDA races. How about you guys coming out to Boise Oct 4th and we'll make you the same offer?:D

Damn, that would mean going from Indy/Muncie to Billings Mt, then back to NC then back again to Boise. That's a lot of driving. You going to run 1/4 or 1/8 mile?

Just calculated it would be an additional 4500+/- miles to drive back to NC, (I used Raleigh because I't not sure where you are located). That would make this trip total about 7900 total road miles. As much as I'd like to come back, I don't think it's in the cards.:( Nathan and Rob still have to try and make a living and my butt isn't up for all that driving.:D Hopefully you can make Indy/Muncie, that probably the only chance we'll have to get togather this year.

Based on past experiences, I have doubts about Eric McBride running a legitimate ProStreet Drag Truck class. Yet, if the goal is to just have a good time, any diesel event is better than none.

The problem is he has proven that he will sidestep rules he creates when it involves entries he is associated with. He doesn't do this with other entries consistently, so having him field an entry in a class of his making is suspect.

When there was a weight limit, and his friend's truck was under, he abolished the rule at the track.
When traction control was illegal, his friend's truck was permitted to run it.
When his friend's truck failed to qualify, the rules about qualifying were overriden so the truck could run in the finals.
Etc, etc.

There has never been any indication that he finds rigging events distasteful or in bad character, so I can't imagine him changing.

The correct path to take, is that if you are in charge of the rules, you cannot have entries you're directly involved with competiting. Our family takes this a step further, and if we help sponsor a racing trophy or payoff, we cannot run that class except for "fun", we are disqualified from winning.

Obviously I'm not going to support his new organization, my bet is the NHRDA instead.

It's a moot point now, had to cancel the trip, thought we hurt the truck in Fallon, turned out to be a rattle in the TC. Truck isn't quite right, decided to pull this motor and put in the filled block one and build the new twins before Billings. Didn't want to make the trip all the way back to Indy and Muncie with a truck we were not 100% sure of.
