There is a pull event near my lil home town this weekend. My bro is entering his 2011 mega cab 6.7 with a stock trans and H&S tuner

I'm assuming this is a work stock class of some sort. 2 years in a row (so I was told) a mega cab 5.9 with basically a smarty on stock trans had won.

I'm dying to go up there and try it out but I don't have trac bars and my tires are slick 305/50r20 cooper zeons on 20's. Not good odds for me even though I know I make quite a bit more power to the ground than the other guy. My traction setup is less than desirable.

What are yalls thoughts? Give her hell anyway? I may not even be able to go, I'll know Friday.

Clamp the springs, drop the bars, and give her hell. I think I remember your thread saying your frontend is already done.

The track may be tighter than you expect, and the tires will get grip. If they break loose it is to your advantage as a first time puller.

Edit: I forgot the location. I doubt you'll see a tight track in TX. I'd still try it.

Ya, I'm dropped with sleeves and all season bracket.

The track will be loose. It's in a fair ground that I think has a concrete bottom but is prepped for truck pulls and rodeos. Doubt it is very tight at all.

Low range 4th or 3rd?

I'd probably drop the pressure on the front 15-25 psi if you've got no hanging weight. Depending on how comfortable you are running low pressures. biggest danger you'll have to contend with is spinning the tires on the wheels IMO.

The rubber is very important in the sled game . Do you have a friend with a decent set of tires you can swap him for a day or something .

Don't worry about winning just go have some fun. 4lo 3rd and let her eat. With those tires I'm not sure how much letting the air out wil help as they have very stiff side walls. Good luck

with no trac bars he definitely will want to lower the bars and clamp the springs ( I know , I ran a whole season with that set up before we were allowed to have traction bars ) . I was just saying that tires are something he needs to worry about if his are bald .

But mainly as was said above go out and have fun . " Winning is fun but the journey is a blast ."

IMO the loose tracks down there you won't have enough traction even with good tires to break it with the springs clamped and your bars ALL the way down .

Dont do it!!!!!!!!!!

Then you'll wanna do it again and again and again then special pulling tires and traction bars and a special hitch and well you know the list goes on and on.

If your tires are bald more spining and the less chance of breaking stuff in my opinion. I am by no mean a seasoned puller just started last year and i think after my first pull i managed about 7 more that season. I did my first 3 pulls on bald asses street tires, then got a good set of tires. I wouldnt expect to win your first time out and set up of the truck matters alot but go have a good time clamp the springs if you can, lower the front all the way 4lo 3rd gear, roll out and let er eat if it bounces let out of it, my rule is one bounce (easy does it) 2 bounces (i am serious) 3 bounces (i am gonna break some thing) although i dont always follow my own advice

Have fun

My t-bars are all the way down as it is. Front tires are about 50% while the rears are about 20% at best.

my bro took traction bars I was building. I might be able to rig something up quick Saturday morning to stop axle wrap or borrow Tim's.

The pull is at the expo center in temple tx. It will be a small event for sure.

With my external fuel tank full I should be around 77-7800 lbs with me in it.

Long drive back if I break something too!!

Remember fluid moves and can induce a bounce . You would be better off to empty the tank and get some weights ( in the cab if they allow it ) . Good luck with the pull and let us know how it goes .

I would say if you cant get traction bars, clamp the springs, if you cant clamp the springs just go for it, your lack of rubber should cause more spin-age(if that's even a word) than bouncing. Remember you can always let off of the go pedal just don't hit the brakes!!!!!

I ran this year with no traction bars and no bounce but i also run aid bags, i just clamped my springs. But i would not block the rear end solid if you don't have traction bars that would give you a bounce. And on the loose tracks we have up here and no hanging weight i would run around 12psi in the front and 35 in the rear.

I would not worry about spinning your wheel inside the tire.... on many occasions i have run 12 psi in my front tires and would chalk mark the wheel and tire. if you are worried you can break one bead at a time and use some of that rubber cement bead sealing stuff to help. with tire pressure that low i never broke a bead and that included turning with about 875# hanging off the front.

we have a couple 200' tracks and you need traction fast. i have run 12 front and 12 rear with great results. wheel tire combo was h2 wheels and 315/70 bfg a/t's

Keep the tires as they are, placement wise. The sled will put the weight on the rear inducing more traction.

3rd gear on the low side...no need for the hero gear.

Fluid movement is a good point. The one sled around here used a water tank instead of a weight box. It would really jerk on the start.

I wouldn't worry about traction bars with your tires on a loose track.

Good luck and have fun!
