I thought I would start to compile a list of all the necessary items to rebuild a stock motor, (everyone knows the main parts of a basic "built" motor) This is all the "other stuff" I could find, mind you this is not from experience, just a complied list of what other people have listed.

Parts from GM

-New fly wheel bolts
-New cam bolt
-Side cap bolts
-Gm sealant "Black stuff" ( 1 to 2 tubes)
-Oil gallery plugs
-Injector return line seals
-Front and rear main seals
-Front and rear cover O-rings
-Water crossover to head gaskets
-Water pump to oil cooler gasket
-Oil cooler to engine adapter plate
-Oil pump to pick up gasket
-Turbo drain gaskets
-Head Gaskets

Bearings

-Main bearings
-Rod bearings
-Thrust bearing

While your in there anyway list (if you blew something)

-Front and rear thermostats
-Water pump
- oil cooler

Machine Work

-Key cam
-Key crank
-Line bore
-Cylinder bore
-Balancing

Assembly

-Check flatness of deck and heads
-Piston protrusion
-Crank end play

Once you start to add "Performance Internals" to the list, it can get very long....

Good list. There are a few things you listed that I didn't need. I also found that one big caulk tube style tubes of GM RTV sealant was adequate. One thing I don't see on your list that most people will want to get from GM is head gaskets.

Ive never heard of anyone reusing head gaskets? Can you?

Why the oil galley bolts?

You are right on the headgaskets, I think most of the other gaskets are metal and reuseable, on the oil gallary plugs, I read in a couple of post of those being replaced, but I don't know why......

Yes. New rod and main bearings (check bore size on cam bearings as well for insurance, but I cant remeber the clearance allowed). Also I would replace the rocker arm bolts with some worthy units. Even a grade 8 or 10 from a hardwear store are far better. I replaced many of the crap cheap bolts on there. The side bolts for the mains are not under hardly any stress at all. I reused mine (there very inexpensive though).

On a side note, There's many of us here that can testify to the crapyness of the stock valve springs as well. From most folks finding they lose about 1/2 there seating pressure after about 30K (or some where abouts). Yes, you can replace them with stockers only to have to do it again later down the road. This is no ploy or sales pitch because I don't carry them. This is an advisement and info only. This should be part of a build spec. to be checked. I run Guys (SoCal Diesel) springs.

Can be found in the Gm spec area along with other clearances.

Yes you were a source for much of the list. My hope is that this will end up being condensed, locked and stickied with part #'s......someday
