So the truck is now 10 years old and I am thinking it's time to replace both thermostats (before something does happen). What brand do you guys recommend I use or at least stay away from? I would appreciate the feedback.

I have used Napa and Orielys without any problems. They are less than half of OEM part.

.....but would you get your water pump from napa or orileys? I don't mean to be rude at all or a smart ass but I have never understood why more people don't buy OEM GM/Delco parts in the name of saving a buck. The OP stated his truck is 10 years old and the thermostats are not even failing! What more proof do you need that's the one you want the second time around. I happen to get GREAT pricing at a local dealership here in town. I've referred some of the Dmax guys I'm friends with to that same parts counter and they all buy their parts there now. That said I understand completely if a man flat out don't have the dough. It is what it is and sometimes we can't be picky.

I do want to point out that the truck only has 75K miles on it. So the main reason for changing the thermostats is due to the age (hence PM). Maybe I got lucky and got OE thermostats that were made during the middle of the week. :thumb:

My reason for asking was I know some of you guys stay away from some brands or use specific brands for certain parts. Since I am a do it right the first time kind of guy, I want to make sure I am using a brand that I don't have to replace again next year. I will check the internet and parts stores to see who has the best price and let you know what I find. If anyone else has a suggestion, please let me know so I can look it up too. Thanks for the input.

I have wholesale pricing with the dealers myself and use quite a few of their parts but some just don't payoff. Yes I have used both of the parts store water pumps and have had good service from those too. HP levels have been fairly high using the aftermarket pumps and not one failure. Maybe I'm just lucky but I don't so.

most non oem parts are garbage some oem parts are garbage like lb7 injectors.

I had terrible luck with my truck with parts that were not oem, water pump and alternator were the big POS I bought

FWIW my LB7 had the original thermostats at 202,000 when i traded it in

I buy oem stuff for the things that are more critical and for the stuff that is a pain in the a## to change. But when I do buy parts store stuff I usually buy napa seems like most of there stuff is a little more quality but even it is becomeing lower quality buy the day.
I bought oem thermostats two years ago and got bent over for them. Then I ended up having to change them out last winter because they were sticking open so napa ones when in this last time.

I went ahead and checked the cost on the thermostats from GM. List price sent the pair over 100 bucks. I buy em both for 58. If anyone wants a set I'd be happy to buy em for ya and ship.

on my dmax, ill buy Gm parts 90% of the time. certain things like a belt, o-rings, battery, ect ill go to napa first. if napa dont have it ill go to oreilys or autozone. unless i know napa/oreilys/autozone carries the same exact brand as the dealer.

James,

I just got the AC Delco's from Rock Auto.

They were popular replacements on the older diesels . . . guessing they're ok for the Duramax.

OK so here's what I found:

GMpartsdirect.com
$26.59 (Front)
$24.75 (Rear)
AC Delco (Manu)
GMpartsdirect (catalog)
$27.65
$25.74
AC Delco
Rock Auto
$26.79
$24.79
AC Delco
Autozone
$36.99 (front and rear package deal)
Duralast
Advance Auto
$36.99
$36.99
Stant
Carquest
$32.49
$33.69
?
NAPA
$24.99
$24.99
Standard-Thomson
Oreilly's
$36.99 (front and rear package deal)
Murray

Having said that, the internet prices are without shipping and the package deals from Autozone and Oreilly's scare me. Also I don't understand why there is a very small price difference between GMpartsdirect.com and their catalog.

So the best choice I have is NAPA. Let me know what you guys think.

I have Napa in one truck and Orielly's in another and both have been fine. Each read the same when scanned. I have one of the racing sets going in the third truck.
