No longer available. Ahhh to bad.

I wont get into my views on racism as I'll just get into trouble ,but some have called me a racist, with that in mind ,this guy should have been fed ,Grits,Fried Chicken,Watermelon,or any other soul food washed down with Cool-Aid ,grape and Orange soda for what he did! Pretty heinous even by my standards.

Lawrence Russell Brewer, who was executed Wednesday for the hate crime slaying of James Byrd Jr. more than a decade ago, asked for two chicken fried steaks, a triple-meat bacon cheeseburger, fried okra, a pound of barbecue, three fajitas, a meat lover's pizza, a pint of ice cream and a slab of peanut butter fudge with crushed peanuts. Prison officials said Brewer didn't eat any of it.

It is weird you'd think that you'd have other things on your mind than getting a full belly prior to death. Says something in the print about dating back to the 1700's and warding off spirits or something.

I guess it's like anything if you got something coming to ya for free by the Government you aint gonna pass it up. Case and point he ate nothing.

I don't understand ,well I guess I do,there is no common sense ,that an inmate can order more food than humanely possible you can consume in one sitting. I guess it's a last 'taste' of something. They should do away with it.

Need to take a page from that sheriffs handbook in Arizona that runs his prison right. Criminals deserving death don't deserve one last lap of luxury. Quite the opposite. Let's starve em out for the last week or two. They'll be too weak to put up any struggle, suffer a little more for what they did, & make the bowel release upon death a bit easier to clean up for the mortuary. ;)

Others, like Texas, which never had a designated dollar limit, mandate meals be prison-made.

That in the article took me by surprise. What do they have to do go out shopping for this last meal or they stock and eat that well in Texas prisons? Must have some pretty good chiefs working there. Unless I'm reading that incorrect. Meals prison made means prepared/cooked in house,no?

Well, actually here in Texas you can get chicken fried steak at pretty much every place serving food, even a dedicated mexican food place serves it so yea, its served in prison too.
What I have never understood is the "cleaning" of the area to get the iv-what? do you think it might get infected after they die? Bullet to the head should stop any infection we don't need needles:thumb:

TX of course
Last meals weren't a guarantee here some guys would want lobster and get fish sticks. I don't get why they granted the guys request.

If it were my last meal, I'd request the antidote for the lethal injection, but that's just me.

Seriously, a reasonable request for a last meal doesn't bug me. Most prisons, it must be something they can make out of existing stores, and is prepared by the kitchen inmates.

Yes, the condemned were crappy folk, hence the whole execution thingy. But while we as a society have decided they must die for the good of others, there is no reason for us to be more cruel than necessary. A nice dinner is just a "going away" present, knowing they won't be back for seconds.

The kicker is, many don't even eat it. I know I'd chow down. Warm diaper and full belly makes me at peace with the world.

I'm not sure if it was in this article, but I liked what the state Senator who asked for the prison system to stop this had to say on the subject. He said something to the effect of the guy who this prisoner drug to death didn't get a last meal request. That kind of puts it all in perspective. From what I read, he seems like the type we need to keep in office.

Food in Texas prisons are not that great. Except on thanksgiving. They get to go back for seconds on that day. And on some days they can get chicken fried steak, or at least what they consider it as that. I worked as a correctional officer for 12 years in Texas. Even the Officers have to eat what the inmates make in the kitchen, unless you bring your own food to work with you. Guess which one I chose after the first couple of years?
