Looking for some assistance. I have computer issues communicating with my tech 2 for, updates and factory programming. I got a new pc from a local computer store. I had them install a serial port, so I could use the rs-232 cable and adapter that came with my tech 2, however I cant ever get the pc to recognize the tech 2. If I go into device manager, it says the port is operating as it should. So I have an old Belkin (f5u409 i think) usb to db9 adapter. I can get the tech 2 linked up with it, but it takes forever to upload info to the tech 2. Like 3 1/2 hours for module programming, and over 30 hours for software upload, where as if i take it to the dealer and use their computer 5 -10 minutes for module programming and 20 mins for software updates. Now keep in mind I am not very computer savvy so any help will require laymans terms lol. So any and all help or suggestions will be appreciated.

I could not get mine to communicate through the serial port either, i tried to search for driver info to see if maybe i had not installed the driver for the port, but it was installed...not sure what the deal was. I guess I don't know how to use that port for any transfer.

glad I am not the only one tim. I should also note I used a different dealership this past weekend to get my ecm programming and they are using a usb adapter as well, a different brand than what I am using (keyspan maybe?)

Also I should note that I did do pass thru programming on a 2008 tahoe with my old pc and used the serial port on the pc, with no issues. That was an old slow hand me down pc at that.

Do yourself a favor and get a Mongoose VPW/CAN usb cable.

Run WIN-XP on your PC, direct TIS to ECM Programming at high speed without using the Tech2.

I have a Mongoose Pro Cable and a Mongoose VPW/CAN.

The Pro is not compatible for some reason with LS1/LB7 but works perfect on all other models, I am trying to sort out what Drew Tech screwed up with the pro drivers vs. the older Mongoose Cable drivers since the summer.

Plan on about $500 per cable, you should be fine with just the VPW/CAN if you can find one for GM.
