TCCM (transfer case control module) getting HOT!

I had a customers truck come in last week for a service 4wd message. Could not communicate with the TCCM, noticed that TCCM was hot to the touch, and was also draining batteries in about 4 hours. Measured battery drain current with vehicle asleep, and got 3A. Pulled connector at transfer case, at front axle actuator, and at switch in dash with no change. Ordered TCCM from dealer and installed it, drain current disappeared, and the module stayed cool.

Had dealer flash it. As soon as it was flashed, the drain returned, and new module gets hot even with key off again. Still have no communication. At a loss and don't know where to look next. Wiring is generally in good shape on this truck. It's not visibly crushed or damaged anywhere, truck is not an off-road truck.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
