Has anyone just taken off the lower pan and drilled up from the bottom? I'm having a hard time finding a right angle drill, and I don't really want to buy one. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

I drilled and taped upper pan through the wheel well with a normal drill, I don't remember having any issues at all.
I did it with my heads off so it was pretty easy. I just overfilled the oil pan by 2qts and jacked up the front end slightly. It was a mess but I got it to work. Just make you leave enough room to put the starter back in place and that the fitting will turn without hitting anything.
