Taking Chrome Off Grille

I just had my truck completely painted. A frame off. I color matched pretty much the whole truck. I wanted to know if I could somehow paint my grille red too? The thing is, my new grille has that chrome overlay. Is there a way to remove it? I know it's just plastic under it. I don't want to paint over the chrome because I think it'll peel in time. Any suggestions?

It will chip....tried every way possible. Finally just peeled the chrome off, light sand an paint. That stuck

Yeah. Majority of it will peel once you get it started ....hit the hard spots with an orbital sander, that loosened the rest up.

Call a local Chrome Plate shop in your area.. They can strip the chrome off..
