beings I don't think there's a seal there (just GM black silicon/RTV) I'm assuming this is for the actual housing/adapter?

No, there's a "paper" gasket between the transfer case and the back of the Alli.
Mitch lots of people use RTV but there is a actual gasket there

Reaon for posting? I got a new gasket after swapping T-case today and posted it for futre reference and others
