So I changed over to Amsoil 15w-40 1,500 miles ago which has been around 3 months. Ever since then I noticed when driving under 2100 RPMs on the highway my gauge will read 205-210. I then give it some throttle and the gauge then will go down to 180 fairly quick. And driving "normal" it fluctuates quite often more so then it has when I ran dino oil. This has been the first oil change using the Amsoil 15w-40. I have checked the level several times and it is always at the full mark not above. The truck has 34,000 miles on it right now. Any thoughts?

ive run the amsoil 5/30 since new and have 45k on it now
i dont think its the oil causing a problem
sounds like a poor flow condition -maybe ck the water pump /serpentine belt for the fan and lower radiator for blockage

Are you running the Amsoil bypass filtration also?

Not i am not. I am running a ACDelco oil filter.

I would agree with you if it did it while I ran dino oil. But for it to be doing it the second I changed to synthetic tells me maybe I need to change to oil again that way it will be 99% or more Synthetic.

Is it possible that the Dino and Synthetic together are causing the temperature sensor to not function properly?

sounds bad to me!,i think you should sell your car to me and that should fix this problom:joker:

you def should be running an amsoil filter
not fram or delco
and the myth of mixing dino and synth oil was valid 30 years ago when the 2 woerent compatible but today i dont know of any oils that cause a problem when mixed
i think its more of a coincedence and coolant related
air/cavitation will cause this concern(head gasket)

got the bypass system going on at my next oil change. Which is when the dang filters get here. I'll also start running Schaefers 7000 syn. engine oil.

I started using Mobile 1 and with this cooler weather 40 - 60 deg., i'm seeing +- 185 deg. temps :)

Whats the difference in the Amsoil filter and the others

the same difference as synthetic oil and regular
amsoil filters are synthetic
lots of othwers are paper and fall apart/clog quickly
youll be suprised how soon the filter gets restricted and gets bypassed
