I have a 5 speed allison with a PPE stage 4 trans kit and Precision converter. I have two years on the build and am wanting to do a trans flush. Im thinking of switching from Transynd to something different. I will be using a BG transmission flush machine tapped into the return line at the cooler. Any recommendations???

i know mike does not recommend transynd as his first choice for built trannys. I run regular old Valvoline Dex/Merc mix. its the same as Dex III.

I thought i had read that somewhere, thanks! And thats what i was considering swapping too. I would do a TAPS reset after flushing as well.

I would not use a flushing machine. Use either the Hoot method or 2 pan drains. Make sure you change the sump filter as Alto clutches will shed some fuzz during break in.

I read someplace that the Allison folks do not recommend a flush on our Allys something about moving particulates aroud. He was saying something about a complete drain and fill, run then drain and fill again.

But that was for going from a regular DEX fluid to TranSynd. I would think it would work the same way changing back for DEX.

Awesome, Thanks! The flush machine i was thinking about using using doesn't use any additional pressure, just what the vehicle produces, if that makes any difference? I already changed the sump filter and changed the spin on twice. So do you recommend switching fluids?

I run Mobil delvac specifically for allison. Hows that fluid mike?

It is identical to TranSynd made with the exact same chemicals and modifyers.

I got this info straight from my Allison engineer. I am seeing a few Allison dealers switching to Mobil Delvac around here.
Castrol TranSynd and Mobil Delvac are the only fluids recommended by Allison. There are other name fluids that Allison recommend, but they are all rebadged fluids from the two names above.

Mike, I know your number 1 choice for fluid is QUATRSYN but what is your 2nd choice? I HAD 3 dealers local to me that carried it, and they all quit carrying CITGO because of there chavez connection(they said they were losing business because of it). DEX3 shifted alot better than TRANSYND for the first 5K miles, but after 20K miles the stuff feels burnt and is starting to get a slight smell to it(NEVER been over 235). Trying to find a suiteable replacement that will hopefully last longer than 20K miles.

I recall seeing over 160 on my trans fluid. It's been in the trans for approx 30k. Probably should change it soon.

I lucked out and found a place with QUATRASYN left(ALOT OF IT!) and picked up 15 gallons of it for $25 a gallon plus tax. I'm keeping 2 pales for myself and have somebody who wants one for his ALLISON, so I should be good for awhile. I was surprised to find QUATRASYN synthetic for so close to what regular DEX3 costs(costs me about $19 a gallon for regular CASTROL at WAL MART here, parts stores want $20 a gallon for store brand), and it is rated for the extended drain intervals as well.

Oh well, got 3 5 gallon pales sitting in the shop. As soon as my hose gets in to replace my cooler lines I will be switching over to it. I looked and looked, and the data sheet on it looks really good, and it is approved(by CITGO) for ALOT of different applications(and it's not much more than the cheap stuff).
