I am prepping myself for an Allison rebuild for some extra hp, and I am doing some research.

I am seeing there is the GMax6 kit which is 1400 bucks and then I need to add a converter that that another 1400 is, and my local guy is about 1000 to install. This as far as I read into it should be good for 850 hp.

Now I continue to read and there is the Allison Stage III kit that suncoast also offers, which is 2200 bucks which includes a torque converter and clutch kit rebuild along with filters and trans go JR and holds 500 rwhp.

Now as I see it since I am more then happy with my current hp and do not wish to add turbo's or different fuel system modifications etc would the cheaper Stage III kit not be sufficient for my duramaxtuner 400 RWHP tunes since the kit is said to hold 500 RWHP it would seem that it should be good to go.

If anyone has experience with both kits that can point out the difference I would greatly appreciate it as I want to have a bulletproof trans but don't need to go overkill.

Truck which will get the trans is a 2010 Chevy 2500HD with 6" lift and 35's

Go with the better kit. Especially since it is on a lifted truck with big tires. That makes it tougher on parts in itself.

Who makes the gmax6 ?? SC III has held more than 500 on more than 1 occasion.

Its Suncoast new kit, its supposed to be a little better than the SC IV, mike or some one else will have to go over the exact differences, I think it uses more thinner single sided clutches as opposed to less thicker double sided ones.

Stage 3 is the Alto PowerPac and will hold quite a bit of power properly set up.
It contains 14 C1 single sided Carbon clutches with thick apply plate, 8 C2 Red Eagles with thick apply plate and kolene steels, 5 C3 Red Eagles with the kolene steels, C4 contains 6 Red eagles with lolene steels.
Gmax contains 16 Carbon one sided clutches, C2 has the same Red Eagles, C3/C4 contain 12 carbon one sided clutches with thick apply plate. The Carbon clutches have no oil slots which is a little worrysome.

Im in Toronto Ontario Canada, and thanks Mike for taking the time to answer my post, I am leaning towards the Stage III for my truck as it seems like its what I need for where I am going.

That is ofcourse unless Mike you offer a comparable kit which I can have installed locally. My builder is a non additue friend of mine that will listen to another builder and do it his way.
