Load the tune you are going to run, and take it easy for the first 50 or so shifts. You want to let the tcm learn the new clearances before you give her hell. Fast learn will speed things up a bit.

I am running the same setup myself. I did exactly what was said above. You'll find that the shifts will be a little hard at irst but they will smooth out. And I know a lot of folks including Mike L will say to reset the TAPS with a Tech II but I didn't it's just a slower learning process. And then give that MFer hell!!!

Another question about these taps. So say I build a trans. Now say I drive like a grandpa for 2 months and then for some reason want to do a WOT run down a country road. Will the trans slip because the taps are set for the grandpa driving?

Does T/H mode have different TAPS setting?

My other concern is pulling heavy. I run during the week without a trailer (and drive like a grandpa for MPG) and then if I hook up to a trailer on the weekend with a built tranny, will there be issues with slipping when pulling heavy with a decent tune in?

T/H has seperate settings.

At the minumum you would need to do an adaptive reset to clear the taps out I would think just to be safe. And I know on my 02 if I don't go do the 3 consecutive runs up and down through the gears it will shift like crap until I rest and start over again.

T/H has seperate settings.

So if I always drive for mileage in regular mode and always drive the bag off it in tow haul mode will the 2 sets of taps hold true to that style, is it as simple, after say 2 weeks of driving "nice" as pushing tow haul and it will hold at WOT????

Yep, T/H and normal have different TAPS entirely from each other as well as 4LOW has it's own set as well for when you are in 4 low. Mine is set up now where in normal mode it slides through the gears, but latch on the trailer and hit T/H and she shifts solid and firm. Just don't make the mistake of leaving it in T/H when you don't want it to be. The later TCM's adapt QUICK. I left my DSP on for just a couple of shifts for about 3 miles and the ALLY had re-adapted already to it.

damn good info. Before I have read it was basically a 50/50 for peeps who ran in tow/haul and peeps who didnt. I was one that never used it, except for towing. I will now be putting it in tow/haul when I want to mash the go pedal and then take it out when cruisin'. Thanks

Ive always wondered about the learning tranny, how I could just be cruisin the whole week, then out of now where, be doing wot shifting.
