For those that don't know, here's some info for ya: The plastic cap on top of the tailgate is 3M taped on. Even still, GM still has holes in their tailgate underneath the cap.

Now for the kick in the nuts part-most metal aftermarket caps are smaller and will not cover the holes! So, after I spent a bunch of money getting my stainless cap powder coated and all of the holes welded up, I then peeled the tore up plastic cap off and found this out.:gaybow:

Now I need to get my freshly powder coated cap bastardized with an extension piece welded on to cover the holes and then re-powder coated.

Just a heads up for those thinking of switching out the gate cap. When I get mine done I'll throw up some pics.

Ya the holes are there because the half ton caps bolt on. My truck was bedlined over the holes. It started peeling off where it covered them so i installed the half ton cap to fix the whole mess.

I knew they were there this time from previous trucks (that I welded them up on) When I ordered my stainless cap from Putco I had to specify weather it was to cover the holes or not.

So I talked to my fabricator today and he said he can't do anything with that piece and can't replicate it either. It needs to basically be stamped in a die as it is a progressive radius around the front of it due to the design of the tailgate.

So looks like another POS plastic piece is going back on and I'm out $130.....

We don't have cheap mexican bodyshops up here that are conveniently located next to allison race transmission repair shops that are only a few miles from the drag race tire factory and down the street from PPE like you do Jason!!
