Looking for your experiences. I just bought some 17's and looking for a tire that works for both street/strip. Slicks are out of the question. Power to the ground will be over 700.
275/60/17 nitto S420's 29.96 tall 10.83 wide
285/60/17 toyo proxes st2's 30.4" tall 11.4 wide
Or is there a better tire that your using? Thx

that proxy being a little wider would definitely look better in my opinion. That extra .25" of side wall squish might help a little too, by probably negligible.

I doubt either wear worth a crap over time.

How wide is your rim?

I just ordered some Proxe ST II's. They are a wicked looking tire. I'll let you know tomorrow how they hook :D

My roommate has 305/50/20's and they look damn near identical to my 285/50/20's when I looked at them side by side. I don't think the 305 vs 285 will make that big of a difference. I was gonna get 420's but nobody in damn San Antonio could get any in a decent time.

I must respectfully disagree with you about how street tires wear on these trucks. The discount tire reps here locally share my surprise/pleasure at how well the Nitto 420 has done on my truck. For a fact they have lasted more miles than either the Nitto TG or the overpriced BFG AT. At this point I'm just convinced some tires wear better than others on any given truck. My personal opinion may not make a lot of sense to you but the results don't lie. Aaaaaaaaand I've towed my fair share on the 420

The people at discount here in San Antonio are effing nuts over not selling a nitto 420 (or any other half ton/SUV tire to any diesel truck owner). I had to trick them to get the Rocky Mountain Falkens I have now. Which have lasted more miles then the bfg's I've been running before. They got down to the 20% tread level and stopped wearing.

Good to know its not just me. Discount tire would not INSTALL them on my truck. I bought the wheels/tires I have now from them and they mounted/balanced them for me but I had to put them on the vehicle myself. No biggie. Best tire I've ever had. Funny the load E is supposed to be for our trucks and they couldn't even outlast a street tire lmao. The load D lasted longer than the Es did when I was dumb enough to pay for ATs. The Hankook Dynapros have held up decent on our Tahoe.

Hell I rolled up to one discount, parked in front and walked in. Told then I wanted nitto 420's and he would not sell them to me since he knew I was putting them on a 2500. I was pissed.
Maybe the tire pressure has something to do with it.

Walmart is the same way,a buddy of mine bought a used Denalli Yukon and took it to Walmart after owning it for a year or so and he picked out some nice 18s for the truck and they pulled it in and about 10 mins later they backed it out. They told him they couldn't mount those tires because they weren't the rims and tires that came on that truck.Someone at the dealership swaped out his 20s for their 18s.....he was pissed.
