Kind of referencing my other thread about needing a front drive shaft.

Long story short..buddy hit the drag strip in his lifted LBZ. Truck sits on 35's with 20" rims so there is a good bit of rotational mass there. A few 4x4 launches and it spit the front drive shaft out. Trans had also called it quits. The front shaft was that double Cardone type shaft or whatever you call it to help with vibrations.

Was told it needed to be that way or it may vibrate. I did a full build on the trans last week and found a stock shaft for a few bucks locally so we decided to give it a try. Well sure enough it vibrates.

I am on the look out for a stout front shaft that can take lifted 4x4 launches that won't vibrate. Truck is max effort tuned, stock fuel/air, built trans.

What companies make said shaft that are tried and proven from your guy's experience? What's the price range on said shaft? He doesn't want to skimp on the shaft for fear of it snapping again.

Tom woods And also High angle driveline.
I'd get in touch with one of those companies. They're very popular with the off road crowd and produce some quality products

wonder if a factory lengthened out drive shaft would work? maybe it was because of that double cardon joint.

Factory shaft works fine. Nothing needs lengthened. I put a factory shaft it in after the double cardon joint broke. Only issue is, stock shaft vibrates because of the angle of the diff with the lift. So it needs that double cardon joint so Iit won't vibrate, but I'm not putting another same one of those in cause this kid will just break it again. And they want like $550 for one. I figured we could have a custom shaft made strong enough that won't vibrate for around the same price.

Dallas s says you won't be able to get a CD big enough in there due to space constrains. I have not tried it so I can't verify but it explains all the aftermarket ones blowing due to it being too small.

Make sure who ever builds it, you give measurements to them for the space you have available for the CD

Tom Woods has a really good reputation in the offroad/rock crawling world. As hard as that stuff is on driveshafts, I'm sure he would be able to help you out with a front shaft.

I have seen high angle high strength front shalfts that use a CV at the transfer output, like the front axles instead of a double cardon. I think the shafts I am talking about are made by Tom Woods...

I had started building a 1350 series (same size as what the 3rd gen dodges use) double cardan shaft. I was fairly happy with the way it clears in my trans in my stock height truck. I never came up with a local to try it out and never really did any more with it.

I can tell you rebuilding the 1310 double cardan the lift companies sell for this application with good spicer forged joints will strengthen it up a bit.

Well i left it up to the kid to get a shaft. His dad works at a dealership and is having "his guy" make a double cardon shaft that "should" work.

I said I'mnl not repairing any damage that may ensue.

The u joint didn't fail on the original shaft. The actual yoke piece did. Snapped the caps right off.
