I have been readin that it is a waste to go over 30 - 35 lbs of boost with a stock lbz turbo. Why can you make power with a aftermarket turbo with 40 or more lbs of boost. Is the stock turbo vanes not able to open up enough to hanble the extra boost or what.

The amount of power it takes to generate the higher boost level negates any power that would have been gained from the higher boost level, ie makes alot more hot air on both sides. It is a big balancing act between drive pressure, boost pressure and actual CFM flow vs. IAT's. Does this make any sense to you or do I just sound like a bigger idiot than I am already?

It is wrong thinking to think of how much "boost" a given configuration can make. Think instead, how much air it makes, it is a more complete description of capacity. RPM is a really big variable.

A smaller turbo (compressor) must make more heat than a larger one. All this heat originates as mechanical energy at the turbine. It's as simple as that. Since the turbine has finite limits to what it can produce, the more heat produced in the compression process, the less mechaniocal energy available for compression and total air motion.

More boost is not always better...after a point you are just super heating the air.

Yeah thats what i am learnin i am guess anything over 35ibs on a stock lbz turbo is hurtin your hp. I never really thought about it that way with the heat and the air thats why a ask the question. Thanks killerbee and everyone else.
