Hey guys my latest project truck is underway. Was thinking about doing a mild build on the motor with lbz rods. just wondering with good tuning how much hp can the stock lb7 pistons handle?

Pistons will last until they crack or melt. Seriously nobody can say they will last this long or that long. They will last until they fail period. If you want a piston to hold up get a arias and plan on puting new rings in the engine every 10,000ish miles or so

For a mild build I think your on track. Stock LB7 pistons have been proven to hold up to 800-850 HP fuel only. LBZ rods I think can be reliable up to 700 or so. I would try to swing some rods if I could but I would'nt be scared of the stock lb7 pistons.

For a DD with a max hp of about 600-650 I would be comfortable running de-lipped stock lb7/lly pistons and LBZ rods. Any more than that you need to look into Mahle pistons or something a little stronger and good rods-carrillo, crower, howards, etc.... In the end, tuning will play the biggest part as to how long they last.

This is going to be my dd so im only planning on 500 hp. My tuning will be mild. Im only planning on getting lbz rods as a backup if the stock rods fail but i think the lb7 rods will live at that power level.

The rings will last longer than 10,000 miles

Why not justt put the LBZ rods in there? No sence in having a "backup" if you have the opprotunity to use the better of the two..
