i have a stock 6spd with a transgo jr. i was thinking about getting suncoast converter without doing the clutches. it shifts great an doesnt feel like it has any slippage and im running a 500rwhp tune. has anyone done this or does anyone have any input.

We tried this with Wendy, it didn't work.

We put a Jr and 1057 with less then 500 miles. Pat ended up limping Wendy on Dyno and when Mike pulled the trans my clutches where smoked.

If you're pulling the trans, you might as well go inside it.

I did just the transgo jr and the 1057 a deep pan and a brace at almost 3,000 miles it lasted almost 18,000 miles and limits once on the bottle. The George had to fix her up.

Why would you go to the expense of installing a good converter without going further?

I had never "limped" my trans with the Transgo JR. and it shifted perfectly. When Eric pulled it apart to do a Stage IV I had some pretty smoked clutches. It seems the 6 speed trans will take more abuse without showing the signs of it. It's good in one respect, but it also hides issues that are about to happen.

Just an FYI.

Edit: If it were me, I would do the clutches. As the R&R is a large portion of the expense/trouble.

Some of us have to learn the hard way

Kat
I talked Pat into that as far as Wendy goes. He agreed and we learned. I need to know what the failure limit is so I can advise people. Pat and I found out.:D:hug:

I have a feeling my transmission is like that. That is why I put in a smaller tune until I can afford a trans rebuild.

I never thought I would push my truck that much,Figured I was staying with the Bully Dog and that was it.

I think we were all in this boat and one time or another. I bought my truck, it was staying 100% stock, "I'll have this thing till I die:rolleyes:" A week later exhaust and predator, thats it. Fast forward to built trans, efi, lift pumps, etc, etc, etc.

LOL fast forward, I had the exhaust the tuner and the intake 2 days after I got the truck and it was at the track with less then 3XX miles unning mid 13's, few months later bigger tuner and in the 12's then bigger turbo trans and last built motor.aound $20,000+ later lol
