Stock Bore Question

Question for you guys. How many of you are running on stock bore cylinders still on your built engine? I put the buggy in front of the horse and ordered a set of .20 fingers pistons for my build. I found a low mile stock core that looks new inside. All cylinders still have the cross hatching in them and show no wear. I am now debating on having a machine shop check the cylinders to see how out of round they are and maybe just running standard pistons to save on machine cost and shipping. Are the cylinders on these pretty true from factory?

Hell check the bore yourself.

Taking it .020 over envolves a good bit if its machined right. I'd see if Fingers would do a trade. If not, take it 20 over.

I would not mind taking it .20 over but no one around here has a torque plate for one. So I'd have to pay to ship it out and have it don . Guessing 1500ish to bore it including shipping.

I have a new socal torque plate for sale, itd be cheaper than shipping the motor somewhere

Stock bore and pistons with 200k on it. Piston to wall clearance max was .006". Just a honing performed. So far has managed 945 corrected hp with minimal blowby.

Boring 0.020" over will not wipe out the hardening. It is hard on the machinist's honing stones.

The decision is completely up to the builder.

When my motor was built half filling the block and the studs made my block move, which required the cylinders to be bored. Or did my machine shop lie to me?

Studs, maybe. Filling, yes.

You might get away with a precision hone job, but it depends on how far out they were to begin with.

Curious, will going 40 over get rid of the hardening?

Planning on filling the block?

No. But my concern is how true stock cylinders are before and after torquing down studs. I personally would rather take a 300.00 dollar lose on my pistons then spending 1200+ to bore it. I personally think using a torque plate and going .20 over would assure a nice true set up. But yet if many are running stock bores with no issues.
