ive been fighting a p0742 code for about a month now. first i changed the tcc solenoid, nothing changed. then ive checked my wires for grounding issues, nothing. then i logged tcc slip speed and all, converter was slipping. so i figured that was the problem, well i just put in a brand new ml precision last night, and guess what i still get the code? what gives with this trans? anyone got any ideas. when i logged it its coming on at 96-97 percent also. theres no ryhme or reason to it either, i can drive the truck easy and never get on it, it throws it, i can giev it straight hell, it wont throw it. im lost, but i know one thing, i cant afford to just keep throwing new parts at it till its all new.

I told you I was worried about that.

I'm guessing possible stuck converter flow valve or the restictor fell off the back of the valve causing the tcc to drag all the time. If this is the case you should have felt a sluggish response on initial take off from a stop. You would have also seen this on your turbine speed sensor reading.

it doesnt seem to drag at all. i just did some more logging and the new ml converter is slipping more then the 1057. i dont think the 57 was bad and i just wasted money on a new converter. but when i was just logging, it did not throw the code at all, just slips real bad.

What is the rpm slip after tcc apply? Does the rpm change at all after you see the 97%?

Could it be the the F trim end plug causing problems? Ive read somewhere they can where out and cause the PWM pressure to leak to exhaust which wont allow the valve to stroke properly and cause converter apply issues.

Im pretty sure that is one of the codes that might pop up because of it.

The F trim end plug is not very touchy. I have experimented with it and never changed anything. The spring is only 2 pounds and the valve is just an on off valve that actuates the converter flow valve.

with the new converter it gets all the way up in the 700's. its worse then with the other converter. yes it constantly changes after the 97%. just crusing its seeing 3-20 then it goes up when you lay into it.

alright now what? the whole trans is new now( refreshed, new converter, new tcc solenoid) and im still getting p0742? wtf!!!! we even tryed swapping tcm's to see if it was that, no go. truck drives perfrectly fine, its throwing the code and not having any of the mechanical symptoms. it never drags, it locks when it should, does anyone have any idea. the three things said to control the tcc all all new or have been checked out fine.

You checked the converter flow valve last time you were in there? It moves freely and the restrictor cap on it is in place?

yes, it moved freely and everything was there. its not sticking. the converter is not dragging at all.
