For about 3 years when I turn the wheel left I feel and hear what I can best describe as a piece of hard plastic tapping against a hollow piece of metal. I just spent 45 minutes going through it all and I can't find anything. Is it possible my steering shaft needs to be lubed?

The intermediate shafts on 03-07classic trucks wear out frequently. They sorta clunk when goin over bumps, especially when turning a bit. I always put new one in; they are like $65 from GM. I know Borguson makes a replacement one that might be better built?

There is also a plastic bearing race thing is the best i can describe it that goes on the bottom of the steering shaft right before it goes through the firewall on the truck. I replaced one early this year on a 06 dually and it fixed the "steering clunk" problem. Stealer already replaced the intermiedate shaft and didn't fix the problem. I just laid upside down on the driverside floor board. Grabed the steering shaft and checked for play at that bearing. FWIW

and you can take a regular screw clamp and put it around the shaft right behind the plastic bushing and tighten it up. cheap fix.:)
