New here to the forum. I'm definitely not a newbie to diesels. Im pretty sure i know what my problem is but i want to verify with you guys. I just bought a used truck 2nd duramax now. When to start it after getting it home and it started then died cranked again and started. I did the first little checks. Both batteries failed badly i thought that was it since it dropped to like 7 volts. I put new batteries in and same thing. Took it back to the dealer (chevy dealer). They diag and installed new injection pump. i didn't think that was the issue but it was on their dime. i get it back today and same thing. If i pump the primer around 5 times it gets hard and will start every time. Also has a new filter head. Im thinking i may have a cracked pickup tube in the tank but not sure. i also seen you guys talking about injector return being high. Any thoughts?

I would start by checking for leaks thru the entire fuel line. Could very well be a rusted connection that is allowing just enough air to screw with it or a collapsed braided section. Check all rubber fuel lines on engine, too.

Get a scanner on it, get it started and see what balance rates and fuel rate is.
