Starting Out

So I want to try and build my own tune for my truck just a fun daily driver tune nothing too crazy. Had a couple of questions:

Where is a safe place to start upping PW?
What's a safe RPM to set my rev limiter?
Fuel pressure base...any need to mess with that?
Boost control...isn't it 14.2psi for atmospheric pressure? So should it be xlbs of boost desired + 14.2?

Sorry for all the questions I'm sure there will be more...thanks guys

ive got my rev limiter upper set to 4k and lower 3950...

boost control your on the right track, pressure at sea level is 14.7 but thats with perfect conditions.... not sure really how to utilize those tables with a fixed turbo...

on all my tunes the fuel pressure base remains unchanged...

Cool...thanks man I wasn't sure about all that stuff...also what about PW to maintain a good idle...I guess where should I start messing with that at?

well i just checked out a handful of my tunes and it seems like about 30-40mm3 is about where pulse adjustment begin to come into play

cool thanks man...you use the timing calc for your timing adjustments? And what do you set your max timing?

no prob im learning from this as much as you lol.

my max timing is set to 28* i tried adding some too see if i could cool my egts a little bit but i never got the desired effect, so i dialed it back to how i received the tune... i didnt try the timing calc yet becuase i haven't done a whole lot with timing:eek: honestly it scares me a little

yeah me too...that's why I haven't played with it...the timing calculator is great and seems to work pretty straight forward my problem is how do you find out what works perfect: just trial and error?

i suppose, i know its really crucial for spoolup on bigger chargers to have the timing just right..

hopefully more knowledgeable people will chime in and we can both lean something :)

In a LLY your WOT pulse value will be taken from the 120mm3 row and the 160Mpa row.

Make sure that your throttle based inj quantity is at around 110 for 100% throttle.

Changing pulse will not affect the idle unless you change the fueling in the idle areas, which is 600-1000 rpm, ~5mm3.

Thanks man just trying to get it all figured out. I figure I've done everything else myself and want to give build a small fun street tune a shot

My TBIQ is 105 for 100% TPS. I'm looking at main pulse injection. And all i see for pulse value is 100mm3, what table is 120mm3 on? Thanks.

If TBIQ is not set to run 120 mm3 it will never use that cell

0-30 mm3 is idle and should not need adjustment

i wouldnt adjust anything lower than 2600 rpm but that is just my opinion and means verry little:) Good luck though as i really apriciate guy that tune there own trucks! its not that difficulcult:):):)

Idk but I do know with my current MPG tune (bought it still haven't gotten the hang of building tunes) I'm pulling a hair over 24mpg on my LLY

Also looking for a decent B/ATDC timing % for a fun street tune....and why is it that when I put my main inj pulse table into the timing calc I get some HIGH timing on the big/high RPM range

for now stick with 50/50 How high you need higher timeing for high PW and RPM:)

Ive built hundreds of tunes it doesnt happen overnight...stick with it and you will find your self learning more and more everyday
