The reason im going with a carb is I plan to run e86 and boost the snot out of this motor. 100+lb e85 injectors are $2000+. A e85 carb to support a 1000hp is $850. I thought about leaving it the way it is from the factory but later down the road I think it will cost me more.
How could I make the 0411 pcm work? Or function as a stand alone unit?
factory ECM supports boost, and E85.
And it will start in the cold...and it wont run like crap when its hot out...and you can have it automatically control e-fans...and you can diagnose problems easily...and it will get better fuel economy...and you can tune it with EFILive...and you can datalog the engines parameters for tuning rather than "guess and check and wheres my screwdriver" for tuning the carb.
And its so cheap and easy to make the factory ECM work as standalone. The truck/SUV harnesses are pretty much already setup for standalone. Just tie all the orange wires in the harness to battery +, tie all the pink wires to ignition hot, and the black/white-stripe wires to ground and away you go!
Especially if you are planning on running forced induction! Personally in my own opinion, I think youre nuts for messing around with a carb. Embrace modern technology....there is really is zero advantage to swapping to a carb on an LSx...
The stock LS1-b ECM is incredibly powerful (many tuners say it is one of the best and easiest-to-work-with ECM's of all time as far as aftermarket performance) and can be tuned to no end! GM's Delphi gas ECM's are a hot rodders delight, they really are. They even blow away most standalone EFI setups IMO.
