I have a 2005 3500. The allison has a stainless plate on the drivers side, about 7 o'clock pos that is leaking fluid. The plate is about 2 inches wide and about 4 inches long located just behind and inboard of the spin on filter. What is this plate for? I looks to be just sealed on.

That is an inspection plate. It's made out of spring steel and pops off easy without damage. Pop it off and shine a flashlight in there and see if the leak is in front or behind the converter.
Hope you haven't been using Dex 6 as it erodes the front seal of the Alli.

If it is on the bellhousing, it is just an inspection plate. The torque converter is behind it, so you might have a front seal or something to that nature leaking.
