just bought a 07 lmm engine with 70k, completely stock spun bearing.

#2 main from the front, could see heat on crank, havent pulled the others yet but no signs of heat. otherwise the engine looks fine so far.

what are these pin looking pieces that were in the oil pan though? they dont look familiar to me. something is clearly broken off the bottom of each one or maybe they were 1 piece but the bottom broken area appears to be of larger diameter.

so what would cause this on a stock truck? random failure

where would you guess it started ? (oil pump has some damage but I have seen much worse)

My failure was due to having too many bowls of stupid for breakfast!
Lets just say, it had plenty of ether to start 25 Dmaxs.

Your bearing failure could have dropped the oil pressure not allowing it to get to the valves fast enough upon starting. The other pieces could be pieces of the ears broken off of a piston or two.
Keep in mind I am a diesel dummy, my opinion is merely a guess.

Be glad you didn't find this treasure chest in your oil pan!

I've seen the same thing Rudely posted caused by someone pouring diesel down the turbo inlet. Why, you may ask. Well, they ran out of fuel, and they couldn't get the primer on the fuel filter to work. When the diesel finally lit, it ran away until everything in the top end came apart.

Question is: Did they have that split second of joy that it had started before they heard metal against metal ?

Wow bad news....

Looks like the lash was set way too tight, valve contacted the piston, broke the valve stems, broken pieces clogged oil return from the top end and the lack of oil along with contaminated oil caused a bearing issue.

just a thought.
