Ok so I got a free turbo and I was wondering what the concensus is on fixing it. The turbine wheel apparently grenaded, the compressor wheel and housing look good, and the exhaust housing got some shrapnel in it. I know the center section has to be replaced. It's done for. The good news is, if it's fixable, it was free and this thing is huge... The other question is, if the whole turbo isn't salvageable, is it possible to put the compressor wheel and housing on my turbo?
The good news...

Looks GT42ish... What's the inducer on it? Personally I don't think it's worth messing with but everything can be fixed for a price.

Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe I could fix it up, sell it or trade it for a s475.

I seriously doubt I could spin it with my truck without some serious mods. Where do I get parts for this thing anyhow? Garrett? Or is there somewhere else reputable? I'm sure google would turn up a million ebay parts sources, but I don't consider them safe for something like this.

Upon further investigation it has a tag that says detroit diesel, and what looks like a flower cast into the compressor cover with a 94 in the middle. Good call Noreaster!:thumb:

Dose the cartridge bolt to the exhaust housing or v band. What numbers are on the cartridge tag? Is it a 72mm comp wheel

It bolts to the exhaust housing. The tag says detroit diesel and has two sets of numbers: 23515635 and XIL 30467. The only number I can find on the comp wheel is 858. No idea what size it is.
