SO CAL
ok so here it goes. Mom wants a duramax allison conversion in her H2. As well as a 93 Suburban that we use at the river. the suburban she wants to build for my daughter not going to lie i want it to hahaha. any way. we live in so cal and want to see who can do the deed. possibly be able to go into AZ as well. so this is what were looking foe either a build with brand new eng trans on both or a used eng trans swap. who do i talk to and or if poss just post up a estimate price and some contact info and we will go from there. yes she could just go buy a truck but she has a freightliner FL 70 with a tuned cat in it to tow her off shore race boat and toys around. she wants the hummer for fun and well thats her river truck and hates that it sucks gas the way it does and that its a dog.. hahaha.

Member hwood(I think that's his screen name) over at dieselplace does the H2 swaps in Cali last I heard, plus quite a few others. As for the 93, speaking from experience I would NOT do it. Look in my sig and you will see I have 1st hand experience in this matter, and I can attest it is not an easy swap. If you have to pay a shop plan on at least 100 if not closer to 250-300 hours of labor to do it and make it fully functional and clean under the hoodand underneath. If you find a shop that charges $50 an hour, that's $5K-$15K in just labor alone depending on how in depth you want it done. Now your into labor alone for more than the whole truck will be worth. And your still stuck with a platform with a weak front end, a frame that can't handle much more torque than what a basic Lb7 tuned can deliver, and it's still a 20+ year old vehicle with no resale value. If your dead set on it it can be done, but I would never do it again if I knew what I now know.

I'm not trying to crush dreams, but unless your doing it yourself you better plan on spending at least $20K to pay a shop to do it, all the little odds and ends you need, and a donor truck. Your kidding yourself if you think it will cost less to pay somebody else to do it by the time it's all said and done. The newer trucks are ALOT easier to do swaps in, and are only a fraction of the work(and cost). And I'm not sure on your registration, but getting a 93 BURB swapped over to diesel o nthe title may be another hurdle since GM didn't offer a diesel BURB in 93. So keep that in mind if you live in an area with emissions testing and have to have it registered as a diesel.

The H2 has been done time and time again as Eric and quite a few others have done several now, but your 93 BURB I owuld leave alone, or consider a basic 12 valve swap if your dead set on a diesel. Teh wiring differences and everything else associated with a DMAX swap are just not worth it IMO.

If it has sentimental value then that's one thing. You just have to be realistic and realize it is going to cost you BIG to do it(to either one). The 454 is a good engine and has plenty of power, you just can't pass very many gas stations with one. But you can buy ALOT of gas with what a basic swap would cost.
