Smoke Switch

Just hooked it up to my 12v aux switch in the dash today (yes i removed the 12v source and feed and put in my own wires). I run fairly stock tuning so I didn't get any smoke. This just opens the turbo vanes all the time. kindof disappointed. Maybe I can make it work with my mpg tuning though :) let the turbo spool during city driving for better power then open the vanes on the highway.

Will test on my way to work today and post back later!

Thread Title : Smoke Switch

i know the smoke switch is common with dodge and fords guys but i've never heard of anyone having it on the dmax.

i took some info off a dodge forum and decided to give it a try.

i have a 06 lbz running bully dog on performance and edge on 5.

anyways, basically what i did was tap into the 5v reference and signal wires going into the MAP sensor and hooked them up to a 2 wire on/off toggle switch. the MAP sensor is labeled so it was easy to determine which wires to tap. it does not matter how they are wired to the switch either.

the results on my first test run were fantastic, tons of on demand smoke. not sure how or if it will work on the freeway though. only issues i'm having so far is that the truck will sometime go into limp mode. according to the dodge guys i need to add a 10 ohm resistor inline to prevent limp mode occurrences. also the check engine light will come on but it doesn't bother me - i can easily clear it with the edge while driving.

i will add the 10 ohm resistor and post the results of that when i can.

i figured that i would share this info as some of you may be interested.

my main purpose in making on demand smoke will be for tailgators - although im not sure that it will work at freeway speeds yet but i will find out soon. i will attempt to post some pics or a video if i can get a buddy to ride along with me and snap some shots.

i have not added the resistor yet but i was able to take it out on the freeway today.

bully dog on performance and edge on 5 - turned the switch on and gave it about 75% throttle according to the edge display - dumped smoke like a train. boost before i turned the switch on was about 4-5 psi and i was traveling at 70mph.

i've noticed if i don't keep the switch on for extended periods of time it won't go into limp mode. although the check engine light will come on immediately after the throttle is depressed with the switch on.

i will attempt to install the resitor by this weekend and post the results. ill also try to post pics of the smoke action.

My smoke switch works great at highway speeds. Called the pedal with a quad tuner on 110 or 135 tune :p::mad:

gets aggrevating though.

i don't have issues making smoke while pushing down on the throttle - again im running stacked (bully dog on perforamce and edge on #5). im sure any of us who like the smoke show don't have issues mashing the accelerator - what im trying to do with the "smoke switch" is to basically make smoke without the truck gaining speed.

something like that: http://youtube.com/watch?v=AYaU1v1VIAc

that was like 10 bux in gas. OUCH! Smoke=Unburnt fuel which leads to insufficient funds.

but cool none the less.

Well, works above about 1300 rpm, below that the turbo is still spooling normally with my mpg tune. My daily driver tune has different vane tables that are open to about 60ish percent after idle instead of 80-85. Got a few bugs to work out but I think it has potential.

Your buddy is an idiot and smoke switches are the dumbest thing I've ver seen.

Tell him to shove his 400 Hp truck in a ditch and buy a Honda...that's all he deserves.

To each his own, I myself am neither for nor against this i think when out playin around off road it could be kinda fun to blow some smoke because some people only have the funds for 400hp and that typically doesnt blow any smoke at all. Blowing smoke all the way through town though is completely unnecessary and unethical it is also what kills our hobby.

My truck doesnt smoke I worked the tune that way, but with all the d-bags crying about it lately it almost makes me want to put a smoke switch in my truck. You guys crying just keep proving my point you are oblivious to anything that happens outside your little diesel forum world.
