Im wondering if its legal in the state of CA to swap out a gas motor for a duruamx on non smog exempt gas vehicle. For example a 80s or 90s gas powered HD chevy or GMC.

That is his point. By not being exempt, he would have to have it smogged here in CA. In CA only 1975 and prior vehicles are smog exempt.

One would need to talk to the smog police, but for a non-exempt vehicle in CA it is my understanding that you can put a same year or newer engine in any vehicle. If the same year, it must still meet all original engine smog requirements. If a newer engine, it then must meet the standards of the newer engine. That is my situation. I am puttng an '06 Duramax into a s1976 FMC. After the transition I will have to pass 2006 standards for the Duramax and not the 1976 standards of the 440 that I am taking out.

So if you do a LB7 to LBZ swap all the egr has to stay on? Can they tell the difference:rofl:? I'm just curious because it seems what happens in California eventually happens here.

I like it:thumb: That may be my next project now that I got my swap running. Ole LB7 is getting on up there in mileage and I have gotten way to good at swapping injectors:roflmao: Then I will probably be calling again:hug:

my smog guy told me that next year they will dyno & tailpipe 2000 and newer models and only do a visual inspection pre 2000. Who really knows if it will happen but I imagine sooner or later.
