It's strange everyone keeps saying "finally someone is stepping it up" (me included) because honestly Kyle Michaels had this same level of truck over a year ago so it's not really a "first". Hopefully Wes can afford to go through the growing pains of it though. That seems to be what held/holds Kyle back. He doesn't rebound from major carnage very quick evidently due to a tight budget. Plus now I guess he is going real radical and trying to make a mechanical injected duramax because he doesn't believe the CR is up to the task???? I can never tell when he's serious or not though so who knows?????
Regardless, this new truck of Wes' is NOT the only new duramax truck being built for a class higher than the 2.8 class for next year. I know of at least another Super Street (essentially what Wes is building) being built AND a true mod class truck with tube chassis and all. And that's not including the rumors that still linger about Chris Watson (you know - the guy who built the current BigBadDodge and cleaned house in the mod class two years ago with it) building a Super Street or Mod class duramax and whatever it is, it's supposed to be done by '09 pulling season and will be badass for sure.
I know it's becoming cliche, but I will go ahead and say this.... Next year we will see some real serious Duramax powered trucks entering the ranks of Scheid, Haisley, EEP, etc. Not to mention some of the wild ass drag vehicles (notice I didn't say trucks
) being built for next year. Anybody would be kidding themselves if they even hinted at the notion that the Duramax isn't, at the very least, as viable for making HP and compteting competitively as any other engine out today.
