Was wondering if you guys running single batteries are just using one of the stock batteries, or is there a single battery strong enough to start these things in the winter. I'll install my second battery if there isn't but if so what are you guys using?

I'm only running the stocker George left the 2nd one out since it was leaking. And the one im running now is the one that came in the truck and started fine all winter with the grid heater not hooked up and all she even was parked for 5 or more days in the cold and I mean cold and fired right up. Also if you want a biggier battary look at Jegs or Summit racing.

Ive been running a single battery now since the end of last year. I run a single bosch 1100CA battery with no problems. I removed everything that had to do with the second battery. Removed the battery, tray, ground. I took the positive cable and ran it over to the alternator and hooked it up there. I then took the factory alternator wire off and removed the red junction block on the driverside. No charging issues and during the winter when it was down in the 20's or 30's it would crank slow but always start.

I run a single interstate battery. Didn't have an issue last winter until the glow plugs stopped working and it gets pretty cold here.

-7*? Yikes! Makes me glad I'm in Cali. Anyone have pictures of exactly where to connect the +/- from the removed battery to? Electricity and I don't get along, so I'd like to do this right the first time. Thanks!

The two batteries are wired in parallel, so you dont hook them (the unused from the removed second battery) up to anything.

Just tape them up individually and secure them out of the way.

Ah ok. I'd just read in another thread that the + gets hooked to the alternator and I don't remember what they did with the -. Thanks.

This is what I have been running in mine with only one battery. We run these in our race cars as well, they work excellent. Truck will crank over faster with only one of these than it would with 2 optimas.
What have you been running?
