I have a weird shudder after the tourqe converter locks up an if Its locked I try to accelerate it will surge is the best way to describe it is my converter going it does fine off the line but does shutter or surge after lock up

Put a Tech 2 on it and find out before you spend money.

mantua, oh
do u have a two piece drive shaft with a carrier cause if so the shudder is most likely the carrier bearing from a poor angle on the driveshaft i experience this all the time with my lb7 it is a crew cab long bed and for a while i thought it was the tranny only to find it was the carrier bearing

No one piece an what am I looking for with a tech 2 just watching the lock.up

Watch the PWM apply. It will come on in 3 or 4 stages. Once you see 96-97% apply you are locked. Once locked, roll into the throttle short of downshift and see what the slip speed is. It better be 0.

After my torque converter locks up, I see about -10 to 50 RPM slip at high throttle (-10 to 10 at low/no throttle). Does this count as zero? (Or, how much is normal?)

Worth noting: I don't feel anything unusual with that amount of slip.

Thanks!

Do you mean -10 to +50? If you do, your converter clutch is breaking loose. I believe anything over +30 rpm slip is not acceptable. A good working converter will never see over +10.

I was afraid of that... It's better when I'm not towing, but still out of spec. :(

Do you know a good transmission builder in California? :spit: I'll have to give you a call in a month or so when I have some money. I was hoping this day would have been farther off, but with 200,000+ miles above stock power, I don't know what I was expecting.

Thanks,
~David
