I 've heard of a local sled pull that isnt anything like most of you deal with, its a small event with mostly stock to lightly modified trucks. Any how last year was won by a stock dodge 6.7 ( no programmer) the year before that my buddy won it with his 7.3 manual with a 4" lift and an edge chip. I'm pretty sure I've got a good chance @ finally shutting some local mouths. What advice do you have for me: Is this going to be the end of my tranny? should I run on stage4 or lower ? I know I need new tie rods or sleeves but I dont Know if I can do any seriuos mods between now and then so let me Know the bare minimum to have a good chance @ this ! P.S should I try to shift manualy or put it in D and Punch it!!!!!!!:thumb:

Hook it up. You don't need sleeves and all that crap unless you are going to be pulling it all the time. Just drop the torsion bars and maybe strap the centerlink. Tranny should be fine, turn the programmer up and go! 4LO, T/H on, put it in 3rd (not sure if that will be the same for your 6 speed) roll out a few feet and put the pedal through the floor.

Leave it in 3rd, dont let it go to 4th. You need to be making some hp to do that. Also I would run sleeves if you dont already have them. 4wd pulls of any sort are hard on tie rods. better to be safe than risk breaking expensive parts

Yep, Yep. Get some sleeves, better safe than sorry. Heck I made my own sleeves. :D Once you start you won't want to stop.

Sleeve the tierods, lower the torsion bar bolts almost or all the way out, 4lo, 3rd gear, by 50ft you better be standing on the go peddle like your trying to kill something under it. LOL

Not sure what you've got for a hitch but get it as high as you can within the rules. UNLESS you have like a 5 or 6" L to male height. Then I wodnt go to the max height UNLESS you build or buy an extremely strong hitch because that kind of leverage will bend or break a lot of hitches!

If you're allowed, I'd try real hard to run bumpstops on the rear so you don't squat so bad. That'll help with less stress on the driveline and make it less likely for you to chuck your driveshaft from the pinion rotating and moving so far forward it binds & breaks.

Your trans should be fine unless it's already hurt.

Run the highest level on the tuner you have.

Run spring clamps on the front and rear of the back leaf springs. That'll also help greatly with driveline stress &help u not break something - namely the driveshaft.

Have a blast! It's rediculously fun!

X2 My son tried that stuff without putting on sleeves an bam broken tie rod, no good, it's easy to fix, but it's not the way the Duramax Nation needs to be see, (breaking the front end).
Good Luck have fun and enjoy the ride,:thumb:

Go to your local hardware store and buy some black gas line pipe and make the sleeves yourself for about 10 bucks. Measure your tie rods from inner nut to outer nut and cut the gas line to fit, unscrew your outer tierod after measuring the distance between the inner joint to the outer lock nut, loosen outer lock nut then remove the outer joint install sleeve and reinstall the outer joint to the same measurement you took earlier and your set, takes about a half hour. Cheap and works just as good as any so called kit you can buy.

I wasn't saying sleeves are bad, just probably not necessary for pulling once with moderate power as long as you drop the torsion bars and strap the centerlink. They are nice to have on there. I have them on my 02 but I pull alot broke a few axles before I learned all about centerlinks, sleeves, and dropping torsion bars.
