My truck is used to haul boats around the country. It is totally stock and has done the job well so far. The broken crank thread has got me concerned as well as a couple of other threads. I cant afford to be broken in the middle of no where with a $150,000 boat hooked to it. I understand all truck have problems but I didnt buy this truck new and hope it was take care of. I bought it with 110,000 on it and it now has 142,xxx. I try not to push it although even on cooler days towing 8000 pounds up hil will make the temp gauge climb to 220s. Is it just the luck of the drawn or are these engines pretty tough in stock form? thanx

More or less just a luck of the draw. Some break stock, and others live at 4 digit HP levels. Just a roll of the dice. At stock power levels or even a small conservative tune I would say the chances of it happening are pretty slim. Just like teher are plenty of people out there who get 100K+ miles out of LB7 injectors(some getting 300K miles), but if you read the forums you would expect to have a hole in a piston from a hung injector every 10K miles.

Very true. The crankshaft is definitely slim and luck of the draw. On the injector issue not that the op is involved so true too. I know some that have never had a problem. I myself although on my third set none were replaced according to the high return rate diagnostic. Stock set replaced for a knock. Next set a injector was dead and now I'm on my third set . Although they are problematic there is no guarantee you will have to replace. Reading the forums do make you worry about it although.

Thanks guys! Sometimes reading the forums makes me wonder if guys are having problems because of the tunes or are these things POS's. It seems like many have the money to blow up the trucks and not care. I didnt have a dollar to my name when I bought mine and it continues to have to pay for itself. I will say the oil does take awhile to get really black and the tranny had a Wix filter on it when I bought it so maybe it was maint. well. Does anyone prefer a oil or tranny filter over another? thanks again
