Haven't really seen anything on this, but wanted some input.

Should I shorten up oil/filter and fuel filter maintenance intervals on 06 LBZ. Over the last 8 yrs, I average 2,000 miles per year. It gets parked from Nov-April and when I do drive it, I'm either towing heavy or general errands around town.

Question:Would you change these items
My last oil change was 2yrs ago and has 1,900 miles on it.
I'm running a AirDog 165 and still have oem filter. This combo has 10k.

New AirDog installed in 2011 and factory filter replaced at same time. This combination has about 10k miles. I'll have to look at my records to be exact.

I ran oil for almost 3 years in one of my old trucks, and only put 3000 miles on it. I was curious what that did to the oil, so I sent it out for a sample. They said it looks great, and that it being 2+ years old didn't hurt anything. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Then again, an oil change is cheap, so it you're worried about it, change it for peace of mind. Personally, I'd run it another year.

Thanks DAVe, thought I would get some feedback on this. Wasn't to worried about the engine oil or the fuel filters, but you never know til you ask.

As long as the truck is in a controlled temp environment it's fine. If it is exposed to changing ambient temps you need to change it once a year to keep condensation from deteriorating your oil. It's gets water in it and turns acidic.

These two posts get my vote.

I wouldn't worry about the oil, but the fuel and fuel filter are a diferant story. I would change it after 1- 11/2 years cut it open and see what it looks like. Then maybe stretch it out based on that be a use fuel does go bad.

I don't put enough miles on my truck so I do the fuel filter twice a year. And change the oil at around 2000-2500 miles

Its not so much miles as having fresh fuel. 300 miles a month not a big deal. Only driving it once or twice a year on long trips ain't so good. I try and put a tank through my truck a month. I've gone 2 years without changing my filter without an issues yet, but I have dual filters too.

And here I am almost never changing my fuel filter. My truck sat for 3 years while I built the motor. Checked the water separator, and left the filter alone. That was a year ago, same filters, so they are 4 years old now, and less than 5k miles.

If it makes you feel better, throw new ones on every 6 months, but in my personal opinion, you're throwing money away. For sure check the water separator after the truck sits (a couple times a year no matter what), but no need to replace anything. That's what the water separator is for...

I've had my liftpump on for about 4ish years and I've never gotten any measurable amount of water out of the water separator. Not sure if im draining it incorrectly or if it's broken or I just haven't gotten any water in my fuel. I always drain it into a glass jar and look for separation and it always just looks like fuel. I've probably drained it 4 or 5 times maybe.

I don't think there is anything wrong with your water separator.

If you don't get a bad tank of fuel, you won't get much water in your tank. The old diesels used to be basically open-air vented, so they would collect condensation quickly. Plus, the metal tank would stay cold, which also collects condensation. Our trucks use a plastic tank, which stays closer to air temperature on top where it would condense, and it has a small vent that limits the amount of moist air that can get in.

I see some water come out of the separator on most of our tractors (vented metal tanks), but rarely on anything with a plastic tank. Still a good idea to check the separator in case you do get a bad load of fuel.

For your mileage once a year on the oil, for the stock fuel filter change it when the DIC reaches 20% or like the manual states every 2 years for the OEM type, at about that age rust will start to form inside the filter due to the small amount of water in the fuel.
