Thanks guys.
I understand I should have got it in writing, but in no way was trying to hold back any part of the "story"
I have spoken with McRat, thanks for your help.
I'm waiting to hear back from David.

Only things I've added to since the original quoted price for installation is:

Installation of:
front cover and balancer
water and oil pump
flywheel housing and flywheel

I don't see that costing $2800, JMHO. Maybe I'm just wrong and need to accept it. I'm not a builder by any means.
I thought I posted this here, maybe it was on DP.

Larry, thanks, yeah it's been a long one. I'm currently working in Mississippi and will soon be headed to Maryland, :(

Not only what I stated above BUT I had the first quote.
After I recieved this invoice the whole "story" changed. I was told all that was included in the original quote was labor and rods.
Well that's not how it was.
Also, this is the 2nd complaint from a consumer. And there are other underlying issues irrelavant to my situation that I am not at liberty to speak about.
I didn't speculate a price, I was told a price for all labor, machining, rods, piston work, studs and core. I agreed. NOW that price wasn't for anything more than labor and rods. Why would ANY business quote a price for less than half of what was needed? all the while asking what route i wanted to take with the hard parts? One wouldn't(didn't).

If it wasn't written... it never happened nor was it said.

Didn't used to be that way 15-20 years ago. To many sue happy people, now we have to cover ourselves from liability.:(

What all are you having done LLY? Bore, align, bearings, assembly? parts?

EDIT: Installation of water/oil pumps/balancer/front-rear covers $2800? No parts? just labor?

That is correct labor only. BUT I'm still waiting on the details from builder. David has told McRat rise in cost was due to me adding. So I assumed it was it. I mean that IS all I added as far as installation.
I paid $243 for a new water pump
$650 for the aftermarket oil pump
I supplied the covers, balancer, flywheel and flexplate along with the bolts for both covers.
My bad .........I did ask him to put in new flywheel bolts($24).

Motor is not being bored over, just honed, bearings and assembly. Of course the balancing and all that.
But the cost is seperate from the cost of rods, piston work, studs, gaskets, injector seals and o-rings, water pump and oil pump.

Also if the original quote had approx. $2300 or so in assembly and balancing and blueprinting in it. How in the hell does it cost $2800 to add on a few paid for items and a few supplied items? That's like $80 a bolt!

Assembly, done right, is an arduous task. Lotsa labor in that effort.

I understand that, but I mean come on it cost more labor to put on covers and pumps than it does to install rods/pistons/crank/all bearings plus hauling it around to machine shop and back and collection of parts?

Point of the matter is the story changed, period. I was told x price for all of it (minus what I added)
Now it's different , the original quote was only for labor and rods.

OMG:( that is not what i wanted to hear:eek:

Scary huh? Run through it with a fine tooth comb... No tricks to this motor.

Perhaps if the failures were spelled out for us we would know what to watch out for? Sweet, you heard of any 1st week failures?

1st week? That would be impatient foot or bottom end issues. Anybody? Pat, what happened?

Sounds painful for sure. Sleep on it, cool down, give him a call and work it out.:)

Hauling around? BMS is the machine shop, no?

With all due respect to everyone involved I have slept on my truck being down for a year now and for 5 months since BMS had it, and this invoice I recieved I didn't just get today, it's been a week or two. I immediately notified him and have slept(barely) on it.

hauling around? You asking to move it? I don't know what to do, but I've giving him the chance to look it over and didn't want his name out there. It took me 2 weeks to post a thread as I didn't wanna start no crap, but it kept eating at me so I HAD to get some other opinons and advice.

Sorry I don't get it? Built by GM?

I thought Pat was saying that 50% of the built motors are failing in the first week, i wondered what the failures had been attributed to.
One of the motors being referred to was built by GM and it would not rotate once customer got it, just what I"m told. Don't know anymore details other than that.

I misunderstood, "hauling around", I thought/assumed you said you were charged to haul the block around SoCal for work to be done. I think/thought BMS was the machine shop and they did it all in house on property.

I don't know what to tell you. Your in a pickle, talk to him let him know your f*cked and swing a deal.

Good luck Man.
