What are you buying?

The SFI 3.2A spec you see on race clothes is followed by another number, which is it's fire protection rating. It is the amount of time before you would suffer second degree burns. There are six ratings.

SFI 3.2A - 1 : 3 second
SFI 3.2A - 3 : 7 second
SFI 3.2A - 5 : 10 second
SFI 3.2A - 10 : 19 second
SFI 3.2A - 15 : 30 second
SFI 3.2A - 20 : 40 seconds

Garments with 1,3,5 ratings do not expire, but garments with 10,15,20 expire in 5 years.

Jackets, pants, one-piece suits, two piece suits, shoes, and gloves are certified under this spec. Underwear is spec'd by SFI 3.4 and doesn't expire. Recommended underwear is Head Stocking, undershirt, long underpants, and socks.

With level 15 and level 20 suits, most the time you will have these custom made based on the measurements you give them. Expect to pay $750 to $2000 for one of these suits.

Looks like I only have 3 seconds. I guess I won't be using it for stunt work...
