I'm having trouble with a service 4X4 message. When I use 4wd under normal conditions it seems to work just fine. Here lately when I do a 1/4 mile run at the end my indicator lights are blinking and I get the service message on my DIC. The transfer case wont ingage but I here the sylinoid cycling. Anybody got any ideas?

I guess I need to add the 3rd quart? I dumped the trans fluid out of it a few weeks ago and replaced with 5w30 synthetic motor oil. I haven't added the 3rd quart through the speed sensor hole like was suggested. This problem was present before the fluid change and it was full of clean trans fluid.

New development, I decided to engage and disengage 4wd a few times today going down the road today to see how it was acting. As usual it went in and out of 4wd perfectly five or six times, the switch then began acting up. I would have to mash the button several times to get it to light up and actuate. I think the switch may be going bad, but I cant understand why the lights flash and the service 4X4 message only comes during a hard run in 4 wd. Could this also be an issue caused by a bad switch?

Thanks for the help Mike, but I tried to get the codes with EFI and none were there. Do I need to log a run to be able to diagnose this? I'm not very experienced with EFI. I can install a tune and log a run and thats about it:eek: Or do I need to get someone with a tech 2 to check it out.

Think you will need a Tech 2. You will need to get into the transfer case module for codes.

Did you happen to change tire sizes? Blue did this for about a month when I put the H2's on temporarily. Took the H2's off and hasn't happened again for 4 years.

I've been running 265's since new. I'm leaning toward a switch right now, I'm going to try to get a tech 2 on it in the next few days, but before I do that I may swap the switch off my dads truck and try it and see if that solves the problem. His trucks and 05 and mines an 06, will the switches intercange?
