Service 4wd message

I've been having issues with this for some time now and it is very intermittent. On my 04 LLY I'll randomly get the service 4wd message. It seemed like it used to be when I hit a bump hard while turning, but sometimes it comes on just cruising down the road. Any thoughts? What is the purpose of the service message? Is there a sensor I can replace?

My truck does the same thing and is rare, unfortunately I have no idea why :dontknow:

I think iv narrowed my service 4wd light down to transfer case control module under the dash, just a thought

I would got it too once in awhile. Turned out the 4WD actuator was going bad. Then it was a connector on the drivers side of the tranny/t-case that gets hit with stuff while you are turning to the left. Can't remember exactly.
