I have a 2009 Chevy 2500 HD , bone stock , 132000 miles. Every now and then (it has happened twice) after I have been driving maybe 30 miles or so and park and shut it down when I return after 30 min to an hour or so the starter just spins the engine, sounds like no fuel. First time I had 1/4 a tank of fuel second time 3/4 tank.

I raise the hood pump the primer on top of the filter until it firms up and it will usually start like normal. Some times I have to repeat the pump up a second time before it will fire up. This has happened with different filters over a period or maybe a year.

Any suggestion as to what is causing this and how to repair it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Filter head itself could be leaking. You can buy a rebuild kit or a new one. I rebuilt one and it was fine, rebuilt a second one and it leaked worse.

You need a new filter head or rebuild the one you got. It's losing prime, this happens to all duramax's with OEM filter heads over time.
