Friend of mine has an 03 CCLB 3500 DRW 2wd zf6, he bought it in Texas earlier this year, needed injectors he put 8 new injectors and it was mint, he put a SB DD clutch and a bigger tune it was great for while he started hearing noises and a couple nights later it was pretty evident it was the turbo. We got a another used IHI from a motor with 87k on it. Looked prefect no end play no signs that it ever came in contact with the cover. Been running the truck for about 2 months or less now and it puked the turbo again!! It must have ruined the oil seal because it started to run away, he let the clutch up and it stalled it but my guess is that oil is pumping in the intake, the IC tubes have oil in them as well. Any ideas what to check? Don't want to ruin another turbo for no reason. He checked the cam bearing it looks fine.

he's not getting oil to it somehow. Like said above, check the drain for a kink in it, and check the supply line and make sure its even supplying oil properly. Pull the supply line off the turbo and pull the FICM fuse and give the ignition a quick bump, see if oil shoots out.

its getting some oil, it wouldn't last a day without it. I would check the drain and feed lines, make sure they are not crushed or anything going on to slow the flow of oil. idk if something could be blocking the port in the block or not.

Sean I'll tell him to pull that fuse and make sure as well thanks.

I have a friend (Blkdmax04) that just pulled his stock IHI off last weekend as he upgraded to one of Trents turbos. If you're friend is looking for another IHI in good shape shoot him a PM with an offer!

Also, food for thought, iirc the oil supply is held on with a banjo bolt right? If you over tightened it, it will not flow oil properly.

Care to further explain? As long as the threads aren't stripped or the bolt isn't twisted in two, you can't cause any oil supply problems by over tightening, unless there is something I'm misunderstanding.

I would double check to make sure there isn't any fuel in the oil. Fuel dilution is very hard on a turbo.
