Question: Seat Removal

GMC_2002_Dmax

The Still Master
I want to take the seats/carpeting out if my 2002 and 2007 to clean the interiors really well, the problem is the funny nuts and bolts need a special socket to remove them, what is it, where do I get it ???

Also, the shifter cable goes thru the floor, easy to remove or no ???

Spring is coming and I want some clean trucks, so any help advice is appreciated.

;)

Yeah the seat and seatbelt bolts suck, you can use an Allen wrench but it boesn't work the best I have done that before, or I will go to my local Advance auto parts and they just rent you the tool cheap.

come on Tony after all this time you still dont know how to take the seats out??? :p:

its not any special socket. Just use a 12 point...13 or 14mm? Yes I know its a funky looking nut, but a standard socket grips it just fine without stripping it.

Gald to read this, I am going to install a laptop mount soon in the truck. I was eyeballing the seat mounts wondering if I had something to get them out.

Thanks!!

The ram mount is a easy install,It mounts to the underside of the seat and moves with the seat if you slide forward or back.

Tony I just Vacumed my truck yesterday:barf: and decided to just buy a new carpet, it is trashed! These New England winters are a Killer. With two kids that play Ice Hockey the poor truck gets killed inside!

Use an 11mm 6 point socket on the bolts

Use a 15mm 6 point socket on the nuts

18mm does the back seats nuts on exteneded cabs

I took mine in and out about once a week all last year and they never got at all stripped using 6 point metric sockets.

Here's what you need for that nut. My E18 wouldn't fit on the nut, but I think the nut is an E18 and the bolt was too long for my socket, so I think a E18 deep would do it.

12 point? What size?

As I said simple 11mm and 15mm 6 point sockets fit fine, no need to buy more tools. I used 1/2 drive with a 1/2 universal and an extension hooked to my cordless impact. The front seat takes longer to carry into the house than to take out.
