A friend of mine picked up a used trans with a SCIV kit in it out of totaled truck and im debating if it needs to be refreshed. It was put together by a decent shop around my area and it has about 35,000 miles in the build. The truck it came out of was probably running around 425rwhp and never pulled or raced and did not slip at all before the crash. The c3's and c4's have some black discoloration but don't look too bad, the c5's are perfect, I haven't taken apart the c1's or c2's yet, and the fluid and filters were clean and didn't really smell burnt at all. I guess im just wondering if a little black discoloration is normal wear or if the clutches should be replaced. The truck its going into is an 04 LB7 and will be running around 500rwhp but wont be pulled or raced. Let me know what you guys think.

I'd replace them. The reason you see the black marks is the 6 small holes in the C3/C4 apply plates ( above the apply piston ) don't let enough oil through to lubricate the clutches.

Ok and thanks for the explanation. Ill change them. Going to check the c1's and c2's too. Might have to get a few sets of your c3 oilers in the near future.

I may be calling you to ask some more questions before final the final decision is made. :spit:
